The US Commission on International Religious Freedom has charged the government of Ethopia with abuse of religious freedom in its restriction of the country’s Muslim minority. The practice not only threatens the religious freedom of religious minorities in the country, they argue, but threaten the stability of the entire region.
Reuters reports:
“Given Ethiopia’s strategic importance in the Horn of Africa … it is vital that the Ethiopian government end its religious freedom abuses and allow Muslims to practice peacefully their faith as they see fit,” she added. “Otherwise the government’s current policies and practices will lead to greater destabilization of an already volatile region.”
