Happy Constitution Day everyone! In honor of the celebration, today’s quote of the day comes from a key proponent of religious liberty throughout America, the First Amendment.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Of course, those first 16 words are of particular importance around here, guaranteeing two key principles of religious freedom: 1) that the government cannot take steps to endorse or promote a religion, and 2) that the government cannot stand in the way of your exercise of religious beliefs.

These 2 clauses are equally important, and must be enforced with equal vigor, if the religious liberty of all Americans is to be safeguarded. There’s no better day than today, Constitution Day, to remember the words, few as they are, that stand for so much as our religious freedom.
