A new documentary, the recent recipient of a Peabody Award by filmmaker Jay Rosenstein, tells the story of Vashti McCollum and her historic lawsuit challenging the role of religion in public schools. From the clips available at the film's website, it looks like The Lord is Not on Trial Here Today features interviews with her and with experts on the importance of the Supreme Court's 1948 decision in McCollum v Board of Education.
I'm bummed that I missed it when it played on PBS last week, but hope to see it soon. Did any readers catch it? If you did, or if you have the chance to see it in the near future – see a list of upcoming local PBS broadcasts, at the film's website here – send me a note with your thoughts and review!
