The Yuma Sun reports on a bill passed by the Arizona Senate earlier this week that addresses religious freedom issues.
State senators voted Wednesday to let student clubs at universities and communities refuse to admit members who do not share their beliefs and still get official recognition and funding.
HB 2565 bars these government run schools from discriminating against students on the basis of that person's religious viewpoint, expression or belief. And it bars the schools from adopting any policy penalizing a student for those beliefs.
The bill allows groups to choose who may and may not join or lead an organization based on its religious mission, and seeks to protect student religious expression, including the refusal to participate in certain curricular requirements based on religious beliefs.
