The U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Hosanna-Tabor may receive its first serious test of application in a new lawsuit filed against the Southern Baptist Convention and International Mission Board. Ron Nollner claims he was fired from his IMB job overseeing the construction of a building in India after he reported violations of safety regulations and bribery of licensing officials.

The contraception coverage/religious liberty debate is showing no signs of letting up – and not just because of Rush Limbaugh. Watching the Sunday talk shows was a bit bewildering on the topic. I have two thoughts really, and may as well throw them out there.

Faced with a lawsuit claiming a violation of religious freedom rights, Texas’ Parochial and Private School association, has relented, and will change the start time of today’s state basketball semi-final to accommodate the Beren Academy team’s observance of the Sabbath. It’s a win for religious freedom and common sense, even if it sounds like a grudging accommodation.

FL House Passes “Inspirational Messages” Bill, Sends to Governor

As expected, the Florida State House passed a bill today that allows school districts in the state to allow studnspirational messages” including religious statements in school assemblies. By a 88-27 margin, following a spirited debate on the floor, the vote sends the bill on to the Governor for his signature.

Blunt Amendment Defeated in US Senate
