The Tennessean reports the Murfreesboro Mosque dispute continues, even as the new building sits just 6 weeks away from completion. Judge Robert Corlew has ruled that the governing body that approved the construction failed to provide proper public notice, placing the project in limbo.

Corlew notes that his opinion doesn’t prevent the Rutherford County Planning Commission from reconsidering the issue and approving the mosque site plan again. The next commission meeting is scheduled for June 11.

Saleh Sbenaty, a spokesman for the leadership of the mosque, said the ruling was disappointing but his group remains committed to building the Islamic center. They have been worshipping for many years at a smaller site in the community.

Corlew ruled last year against challengers to the mosque who claimed, among other things, that Islam is not a religion that qualifies for First Amendment protection.
