Open House at the new Baptist Joint Committee on Religious LibertyWritten by Don Byrd

You can read my Top Ten Religious Liberty Stories of 2015 here. But, what’s in store for religious liberty and church-state separation in 2016?

Obviously, there’s a national election, including a presidential contest that has already provided the need for religious liberty advocates to be heard.

States are gearing up to debate legislation with church-state implications.

The Supreme Court is set to decide another health care case that turns on application of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

Meanwhile, we are all still trying to learn to live peacefully with each other and our religious differences.

Throughout 2016, and all of these concerns, and whatever unexpected church-state developments we face, one thing is for sure: the Baptist Joint Committee will be thoughtfully engaged, involved, and advocating for the religious liberty of all.

I am proud and grateful that the BJC is there on my behalf as a Baptist who believes that religious liberty, freedom of conscience, and the separation of church and state go hand in hand. If you are too, it’s not too late to make a year-end gift to the BJC. Donate here. Whatever 2016 brings, you will be glad you did.

Happy New Year BJCBlog readers!
